Covid-19 has definitely forced everyone to re-evaluate how things can work and function. It has impacted virtually everything about normal, everyday life and that includes the way we learn.
Studying during this time can be stressful! Here are some tips and tricks to help you navigate these unprecedented times.
MAKE A PLAN.
Decide when and where you will be doing your work. Consistency is key. Set a routine and make sure it's feasible so you can stick to it!
TAKE NOTES.
You should always be doing this! But, make sure you are paying attention during your lectures and readings. Taking notes in your own words allows you to process the info in a new way and really tests whether or not you understand the topic. It also helps you with the next point.
ASK QUESTIONS.
Online learning has its pros but it does have one major flaw— the lack of face-to-face interactions. When you are in person, you have the option to easily raise your hand and have an answer relatively quickly. Now, however, you may need to send an email or post on a discussion forum. For some, this can be intimidating or an "out of sight, out of mind" situation. Whatever it may be, make sure that you are still communicating your confusion and seeking help from various sources!
DO ONE THING AT A TIME.
You have all the time in the world right now. No need to stretch yourself thin trying to do everything at once. Allocate time to one task and only one. Focusing on one thing instead of three allows you to be more effective and productive throughout the day.
TAKE A BREAK.
We are huge advocates of breaks over here! Allowing yourself some time to relax and recharge is integral. Oftentimes, working from home blurs the lines of relaxation and studying. Set clear boundaries and make sure to break up your workload! You have no where to go, no need to do it all in one sitting.
REWARD YOURSELF.
Small wins are still wins! Whenever a task is completed, you passed a test or finished your to-do list, make sure you treat yourself to some positivity. Be proud of what you accomplished and focus on what you have completed, not what you still have left to do. When we stress about the things we haven't done, we will never feel a sense of achievement when in fact, you have achieved a lot!
